New to Pilates

Classes are multi-level but Reformer experience is a must. Starting with private or semi-private sessions is a great way to prep for classes. The New Client Package offers a nice price break and provide a great foundation for future sessions.

Why Pilates

Pilates practice helps train the body to move better. We work on moving with focus and precision with the spring resistance creating a smooth, flowing workout. Strength building and stretching happen seamlessly each session. Regular practitioners often experience less stiffness and generally feel more supple in their daily lives. Improved posture, strength and flexibility can also be positive side effects of Pilates.

If reducing stress in your life is a priority, the flow and breath integral to Pilates is an effective way to find the emotional balance you are looking for. Pilates exercises are intended to be done with focus and with a non-hurried cadence that are conducive to easing the mind and body from the stressors of life.

Pilates History

Developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), the Pilates Method is a mind-body conditioning program initially designed for rehabilitation during the early twentieth century. The Pilates method is a combination of stretching and strengthening exercises that emphasize balance and coordination. Focus on proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and concentration on smooth, flowing movement are integral to Pilates. Quality of movement is stressed over quantity of movement. With regular practice, Pilates has the ability to change the body towards suppleness and flexibility and inspires students of all ages and fitness levels.

Frequently Asked Questions -

What should I bring/wear?

Comfortable yoga-type attire is without zippers or fasteners that can tear the equipment upholstery. Clothes that are not too baggy make it easier to check your alignment on the equipment. Pilates is done with bare feet or grip socks; regular socks can slip on the equipment. Bring a water bottle if you would like.

What studio protocol should I be aware of?

Avoid wearing strong scents. Silence your cell phone. Remove jewelry that could get caught in or tear the equipment. Secure long hair. Wash hands when you arrive. You can exercise with clean bare feet or grip socks.

How do I start?

Our New Client Package is the best way to begin your Pilates journey if you have not worked on a Reformer before (or it’s been a long time). These three private sessions will provide you with some understanding of Pilates fundamentals and keep you safe throughout your exercises. Purchasing a single private session is also an option. Private session time slots can be scheduled online or contact the studio to find compatible time slots. If you are comfortable working on a Reformer and are a regular practitioner of Pilates, you may book a class!

Please contact us if you have questions or do not find suitable time slots.
